Most gyms in Pakistan do not start with software. They start with a register book on the desk, or an Excel file on one computer, and both work — for a while. This is an honest look at what a spreadsheet is genuinely good at, what it quietly costs you, and the point where it stops being enough.

Where Excel is the better choice
It is free and it is already working
There is no subscription, no trial, no onboarding and nothing to learn. If your gym has 40 members and one person handling everything, a sheet may genuinely be all you need — and we would rather say that than sell you something.
It works with no internet and no account
A register book and an offline Excel file keep working during a power cut, on a dead connection, and on the day a service provider has an outage. Nobody can suspend them, raise their price, or change how they work overnight.
It bends to any way you work
You can add a column for anything, write a note in the margin, and record an arrangement that no software would accept. Every product has rules about what a membership looks like; a blank sheet has none.
Nobody has to be trained
Your staff already know how to type in a box. There is no new screen to learn, no permissions to hand out, and no day where the gym runs slower because the system is new.
Where Gymora is the better choice
Expiries find you, instead of you finding them
The members whose packages run out this week are a list you open, not a column you sort — and the reminder goes to them on WhatsApp without anyone remembering to send it.
Attendance is recorded by the door, not by hand
A ZKTeco fingerprint device logs each member as they arrive, so attendance is captured even when the front desk is busy, and an expired membership is caught at check-in.
Money is added up for you
Fees, counter sales, expenses and trainer commissions land in the same reports, so the month’s numbers are there without anyone rebuilding a total in a formula.
Two people can work at once, and you can see who changed what
Each staff member gets their own login and only the permissions you give them, and on Pro the activity log records who edited a payment and when.

What Excel costs
Free if you already have Excel, or the price of a Microsoft 365 subscription
- A paper register costs the price of the book. That is the cheapest software decision you will ever make, and it is a real advantage.
- Excel is free if your computer already has Office. Otherwise Microsoft 365 is a paid subscription, priced per year or per month depending on the plan and the country.
- The cost that matters is not on an invoice. It is the memberships that expire without anyone noticing, because nothing in the file tells you.
- Google Sheets is free, and because it lives in the browser it opens on any computer with the login.
Excel’s pricing is theirs to change. These figures were checked on 12 September 2026 against Microsoft — 365 plans and pricing. Check with Excel before you decide.
What Gymora does not do
Worth knowing before you switch. These are real gaps, not modesty.
No class scheduling or booking
Gymora does not have class timetables or class booking. If your gym runs its business around scheduled classes, that is a real gap, and you should pick software built for it.
Members cannot pay by card online
A member can tell you they have paid and give the reference, and you confirm it. Money never moves through Gymora. If you need members charged automatically every month, that is a real gap.
No separate mobile app
The member portal is a web page that works on a phone. There is no app to download from the Play Store.
We are newer and smaller
Gymora is a newer product with fewer public reviews than the names on this page. If a long track record matters most to you, that is a fair reason to choose one of them.
So which one?
Stay on the spreadsheet if your gym is small, one person handles everything, and you are genuinely on top of who is expiring. It is free, it works, and replacing something that works is not automatically progress.
